San Francisco’s Fleet Week has long been a SF favorite, an event where water and wings meet for a duo show of patriotism at Pier 39. Begin your day with a tour inside the great ships which have carried thousands of our nation’s service men and women around the world, and then see the thrilling Blue Angel’s air show, colorful military bands, fireworks, and for the first time ever in the Bay Area, the Breitling Jet Team from France air show.

This year, everyone has the chance to show their patriotism and “Buy a Burger” for a Sailor, Blue Angel, Marine, or Coastie! The donations run from $8 a burger, $20 for a squad of burgers, $50 for a battalion…all the way up to a Fleet of burgers for $150. Find out how to donate here.

  1. Cherry Trees have a long story of friendship between America and Japan and have become a symbol of friendship between our two countries. Here’s the story:
    1912: The Japanese gave plantings of the cherry tree to the American people as a gesture of friendship.
    1915: America returned the gesture and sent a gift of flowering dogwood trees to Japan.
    1965: Lady Bird Johnson accepted 3,800 more trees from the Japanese government in 1965 in an effort to rebuild relations after World War 2
    1981: After the 1981 flood destroyed many of Japan’s cherry trees, America gave back cuttings to Japan.Many festivals begin each year with a gift of a cherry tree from Japan.
